Braised Red Cabbage with Date Syrup and Giant Sultanas
Using the AGA Portmeirion casserole means this tasty recipe can be made, cooked and served all in the same dish.
Serves 4
50g butter or vegan equivalent
1 clove of garlic, grated
1 med red cabbage, shredded
150g giant sultanas
1-2 tbsp date syrup
100ml port or red wine
100ml water
Salt and black pepper
Juice of half a lemon
Method
Melt the butter or vegan sunflower spread in the AGA Portmeirion Ceramic Casserole on the Simmering Plate add the garlic and cook for half a minute. Add the cabbage, sultanas and date syrup. Cook for 2 minutes then pour in the port or wine and the water. Bring to the boil and stir. Season. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes.
2, 3, 4 and 5 oven AGA: Transfer to the Simmering Oven and cook for around 45 minutes to one hour. Stir in the juice of half a lemon and adjust the seasoning.
